Four refugees escaped from West Papua following the violence against the Third Papuan People's Congress. Brutally arrested and imprisoned by Papua New Guinea police on trumped up charges of illegaly importing the fuel which they used as a means of escape, denied medical attention and legal representation, the political prisoners remain in detention until now. The men's families have grave fears for their lives and worry that the Indonesian Intelligence has motivated the PNG authorities to imprison them.

Forgotten Bird of Paradise - trailer

British film-maker Dominic Brown travelled without the knowledge or authority of the Indonesian authorities in order to film Forgotten Bird of Paradise. The documentary provides a rare and moving insight into the forgotten struggle for independence that has gripped West Papua for over 45 years. It includes never before seen footage of OPM rebel fighters at their stronghold deep in the Papuan jungle, as well as interviews with human rights victims of the Indonesian regime.
