Frank Fisher From The Understandascope speaks at the Melbourne Social Forum 2008 about Public Transport in Melbourne.
Frank Fisher. Adj. Prof. in Faculty of Design and convenor Grad.Cert. Sustainability in National Centre for Sustainability at Swinburne U.T. His work is based on the idea that humans create their expectations of the world socially and therefore can change them - socially. For a decade he was an electrical power engineer in Europe and Australia; retrained in languages, geography and environmental science; lecturer and director of the Monash Uni. Graduate School of Environ. Sc. from 1978 to 2005; initiated various centres (recently The Understandascope) and a windfarm at Ararat.
His 45 years with Crohn's Disease and its consequences have lead to another life in consumer health advocacy (at any time working on 12+ national committees). Two sons, a musician/fashion designer and an editor; partner, an environmental scientist and farmer.
Recently named Victorian environmental educator of the year (2006) and inaugural Australian environmental educator of the year (2007-8). Recent book: Response Ability: Environment Health & Everyday Transcendence, Vista, 2006.
