The long running community TV station in Melbourne C31 is still being denied the opportunity by the Rudd government to broadcast in digital. C31 does not receive any government funding and to ensure long term survival must be given the opportunity to simulcast now. The government is running a $140million campaign to encourage the Australian public to switch to digital and with 80% of its funding coming from sponsorship and revenue C31 should be given one of the three channels left of the digital spectrum in Melbourne. C31 provides a platform for the community to communicate and is the largest broadcaster of local content in Australia.

EngageMedia successfully hosted another video distribution workshop in Jakarta a week ago on the 23-24th May. Twelve people attended and over the two days explored the ways and means of how video makers all over the world are distributing their videos through the online world. Its important for people to put out their own stories on social and environmental issues so the world sees more than what the news agencies put out. There are millions of stories out there and EngageMedia helps give people the tools and knowledge to put these stories out.

On Saturday 13th June 2009 there were rallies in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Canberra and Hobart on the same day as part of an initiative by Australia's Climate Action Summit in February 2009 when over 140 climate action groups came together. The rallies are our chance to secure strong global action to cut emissions in time to avoid catastrophic climate change. In December 2009, governments of the world will meet in Copenhagen to forge a critical new global climate change agreement in the lead-up to this we will be calling for 100% renewable energy by 2020 and Australia to lead the way in combating climate change.

Environmental activists are still struggling in a legal battle against the timber giant Gunns that has been going on over four years now. Gunns have been been suing the remaining 14 activists from the original 20 over their anti-logging protests citing their activities as damaging to the company
News Item Pacific Climate Change Ambassadors Take to the Front Line by Michelle Thomas — last modified Apr 30, 2010 07:30 AM
Pacific climate change activists and ambassadors began meetings on Sunday 21 June in the lead up to the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Copenhagen later on in the year. The meetings began in Cook Islands and will continue on for a month throughout the Pacific also documenting climate change in places such as Samoa and Vanuatu. Leaders on climate change will be meeting with the global NGO Greenpeace and other travellers aboard the Esperanza such as Oscar nominated star of Whale Rider, Keisha Castle-Hughes.
