On September 16 and 17 2009 Greenpeace New Zealand and activists staged a massive action, blocking a shipment of palm kernel animal feed from Indonesia from entering Tauranga Port. The feed was destined for Fonterra dairy farms. They are calling on New Zealand PM John Key to halt imports of the product due to its impact on climate change and address intensive dairy farming in New Zealand. Read more…

In June 1999 there was a global Reclaim the Streets event and Sydney took part with over 1000 people gathering in Newtown to reclaim public space from the tyranny of roads, create a community space and give the pedestrian, skateboarder, bike rider and musician a chance. The band Insurge perfomed their new single "I hate Stupid People there" - this is the dance remix cut to the Reclaim the Streets footage. Read more…

Music video of John Butler in the Styx Valley, Tasmania. Many people have visited the Styx Valley in Tasmania during the battle to save the old growth forest and the giant trees aged hundreds of years from logging multinationals such as Gunns Ltd who clear fell these areas for pulp. The singer/songwriter John Butler performed up a tree sit 85metres up during a time when volunteers, The Wilderness Society and Greenpeace occupied the area and many lived up on the tree sit maintaining it for five months. Mackay/Cairns Queensland, Friday 7th August 2009: The Greenpeace vessel the Esperanza is now on its way to Cairns following a week of peaceful direct actions during the Pacific Islands Forum. A sustained blockade of the Hay Point Coal Export Terminal ended late last night, 6 August 2009, after Greenpeace successfully stopped coal loading at Hay Point for over 36 hours. Read more…

Lukautim Bus (Save Our Forest) is a short film about the struggle of the Papua New Guineans from Lake Murray, Western Province against illegal logging. The community there have become one of the first communities to work towards a model of eco-forestry to become self sufficient and supporting rather than becoming prey to the corruption of the illegal logging companies who come to such areas rich with resources only to plunder the forests and the people. On Saturday 13th June 2009 there were rallies in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Canberra and Hobart on the same day as part of an initiative by Australia's Climate Action Summit in February 2009 when over 140 climate action groups came together. The rallies are our chance to secure strong global action to cut emissions in time to avoid catastrophic climate change. In December 2009, governments of the world will meet in Copenhagen to forge a critical new global climate change agreement in the lead-up to this we will be calling for 100% renewable energy by 2020 and Australia to lead the way in combating climate change. Fair Go Kev - C31 left behind on digital

The long running community TV station in Melbourne C31 is still being denied the opportunity by the Rudd government to broadcast in digital. C31 does not receive any government funding and to ensure long term survival must be given the opportunity to simulcast now. The government is running a $140million campaign to encourage the Australian public to switch to digital and with 80% of its funding coming from sponsorship and revenue C31 should be given one of the three channels left of the digital spectrum in Melbourne. C31 provides a platform for the community to communicate and is the largest broadcaster of local content in Australia. Read more…
