'connected08' call for entries

State Trustees in partnership with Arts Access Victoria is calling for entries to ‘connected08’. ‘connected08’ is an art prize open to Victorian artists with a disability or with an experience of mental illness. Artists from community projects, supported residential accommodation, workplace employment and training initiatives, as well as independent artists and studios are encouraged to submit their work to be considered for the exhibition. 22 July - 3 August 2008 Black Box, The Victorian Arts Centre

Arts Access Victoria is thrilled to announce that we will be working in partnership with State Trustees to present connected08, an exhibition showcasing visual art by Victorian artists with a disability.

The connected exhibition was initiated by State Trustees in 2003 as part of its' work to support Victorians living with disability through management of their legal and financial needs.

Taking place from 22nd July - 3rd August 2008, connected08 will focus on exhibiting works by new and emerging Victoria artists with disabilities. It will also include a community project in which residents of a number of supported residential services will have the opportunity to participate in art classes to develop pieces for the exhibition.

A new initiative in ‘connected08’ is that submissions will be accepted from visual artists and craftspeople who work across ALL artforms. This includes artists working with traditional, experimental and technology-based artforms including:

• painting
• drawing
• sculpture
• photography
• new media and experimental artforms
• video
• audio / sonic art

Jane Trengove will be the Curator for ‘connected08’. Jane is a highly respected and successful visual artist, exhibiting most recently at Sutton Gallery in Melbourne. Jane also works with Arts Access Victoria in the capacity of Industry and Audience Development Manager and holds a Master of Visual Arts from VCA ‘connected08’ will feature prizes for the best works, to be judged by a panel of three persons, representing the arts and disability sectors.
