"Sex Wars: The Musical" workshop at Camp Betty

Sex Wars: The Musical or... Which Side Story.

In the 1980s and 90s, lesbian communities grappled with a whole heap of arguments around sex and power. What is feminist sex? Does pornography cause rape? And what about consensual violence, where did that fit in? As sex-positive lesbians faced off against radical feminists and anti-pornography activists things got vicious and new lines were drawn: which side are you on?

This is a clip of a workshop attendee singing "Nancy" her composition and impromptu performance for the "Sex Wars - The Musical" workshop at Cloud City in Melbourne for Camp Betty, a weekend of radical sex and politics.

On 23rd July 2007 thousands of people came out in Jakarta to protest Nike's decision to cancel shoe manufacture contracts in two factories in Indonesia. Around 115,000 workers are employed by sub-contractors to Nike to produce shoes in Indonesia. When Nike cancels these contracts workers are left without severance pay. Protestors held anti-Nike placards but the protest had a peaceful vibe. This video was shot on mobile phone as protestors headed towards the main demonstration at the Jakarta Stock Exchange.

Over 1000 people marched from the State Library of Victoria to Treasury Gardens on 29th October 2011 as part of the ongoing Occupy Melbourne protests.

Our boys and girls in blue were on the streets again, dodging criticism for the use of brutal strong arm tactics against the public when evicting the Occupy Melbourne protest from City Square on the 21st of October.

The police were out in force to protect the people of Melbourne from other people of Melbourne who were undertaking dangerous activities such as walking, gathering in parks, and utilising public spaces to discuss capitalism, democracy and corporate greed.
