Vuka Vrcevica - A Violation of Housing Rights
The right to adequate housing is a fundamental human right protected by international law, and applying equally to all people, everywhere. But for the Roma community of Vuka Vrcevica in Belgrade, grossly inadequate living conditions amount to a violation of their human rights.

Full description
Filmed during a visit to Belgrade in 2003, this short, low-budget documentary highlights the appalling living conditions and housing discrimination faced by a small Roma community living on the site of the municipal tip in the Vuka Vrcevica area of the city. It argues that such housing conditions amount to a violation of the human right to adequate housing, guaranteed under international human rights law but often ignored by countries that have ratified the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. The film was produced by the Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions, a Geneva-based NGO advocating for the full implementation of the human right to housing in all countries.
