new Deep Dish series: Waves of Change

by DeeDee Halleck last modified 2008-11-11 21:36

A SURVEY OF COMMUNITY MEDIA AROUND THE WORLD: RADIO, TELEVISION, THEATER, MURALS, COMICS AND THE INTERNET AS FORMS OF RESISTANCE TO HOMOGENOUS COMMERCIAL CULTURE. WE CELEBRATE THE ENERGY AND SUCCESS OF COMMUNITY EXPRESSION, BUT ALSO LOOK AT PROBLEMS OF SUSTAINABILITY, DIFFICULT INTERACTIONS WITH POLITICAL POWER, THE STRESSFUL AND SOMETIMES DANGEROUS LIVES OF MEDIA ACTIVISTS, AND THE EVER-PRESENT POTENTIAL OF CO-OPTATION BY COMMERCIAL INTERESTS.

Full Description

Deep Dish TV is looking for short (5-15 minute) pieces ABOUT community media projects. The SUBJECT has to be the media-- how people are working together to create new forms of media that are not corporate or exploitative, or how local media is being repressed or constrained, or how people are working to get legislation to support and protect community media. Send us a url to dhalleck@ucsd.edu or deepdish@igc.org with Waves of Change in the subject line. Check out our web site (now with an engage-media clip!) at www.deepdishwavesofchange.blogspot.com DeeDee Halleck
