Transparency first casulty of Cop15?

With only days of negotiating left before the end of the Cop15, and with talks at a deadlock, there are increasing fears of exclusive meetings between powerful nations.

The summit presidency moved to hold unofficial parallel negotiations, sidelining many nations last week, while a meeting with only UNFCCC members, was held at the weekend.

It is also thought financial and mitigation-focused talks were held with a specific selection of parties, severly compromising the fairness of the process.

Several European leaders will hold private meetings this week ahead of the UN leaders meeting.

NGOs have expressed fears that these meetings reveal a concerted effort to divide nations within the G77 and China blocs to allow the development of appealing, but short-sighted agreements favouring developed nations.
