EngageMedia Update | April 2009

by Emily Clark last modified Apr 30, 2010 08:16 AM
It’s April already and the year has been flying by. The big news in the EngageMedia office is that we just completed a major project for Critical Commons; a non-profit advocacy coalition that supports the use of media for teaching, learning and creativity, providing resources, information and tools for scholars, students, educators and creators. The project was established out of the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. Using Plumi, our talented tech team created a website for Critical Commons which will act as an online tool for viewing, tagging, sharing, annotating and curating media within the guidelines established by a given community.

With so much political and social upheaval around the world, it is more critical than ever for independent media makers to have avenues to distribute their work and raise awareness for important issues. Check out this news story for an overview of the current political conflict in Thailand.

Aside from running EngageMedia.org, we have a number of other projects we’re currently undertaking; one of which is the series of workshops being delivered within Southeast Asia. Our next Video Distribution Workshop is set to take place in Jakarta, Indonesia from 23-24 May. Click here for more info.

Please note that applications for the two job vacancies we had our now closed. Thank you to everyone who took the time to apply, we were overwhelmed with the quality of the resumes we received. We’re currently interviewing and will be introducing our new team members soon. Stay tuned!
