Thousands in Melbourne to Rally for a Price on Pollution

Melbourne residents will have the chance to stand up and be counted on the critical issue of climate change action, as part of a national day of climate rallies, Sunday June 5. Thousands are expected to attend the event at Melbourneʼs State Library, which will seek to counter conservative rallies against climate action with a family friendly day supporting a price on pollution.

What: Family-friendly rally for climate action (with live music by Blue King Brown,face-painting and biodegradable balloons for kids)

Who: Thousands of members of GetUp, Greenpeace, the Australian Youth Climate Change Coalition, 350.org, the Australian Conservation Foundation, Environment Victoria and Oxfam Australia, the ACTU, WWF, the Climate Institute the Climate Action Network and local Climate Action Groups.

Simultaneous rallies will be held in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart and Canberra. The rallies are run by the ʻSay Yesʼ campaign, initiated by groups – representing 3 million young people, workers, business and the environment – that all want Australia to price carbon pollution in 2011.
