Rainforest Action Network's Valentine Card

Dear Chocolatier,

While I do adore chocolates, I have no love for rainforest-destroying palm oil.

With this Valentine postcard, I want to make sure you are aware that the palm oil that you are using to make some of your Valentine's chocolates could be linked to some very alarming issues.

A majority of the world's palm oil comes from Indonesia and Malaysia, where thriving rainforests are torn down by the palm oil industry and replaced with monoculture plantations, some of which have been discovered to use slave labor.

I know you do not want your Valentine sweets to be soured with controversy.

Please reconsider your use of palm oil. If you feel you must use it, I’m asking you to diligently investigate the origins of the palm oil in your candy. Ask your supplier to tell you where your palm oil comes from and what safeguards are in place to ensure that slave labor, rainforest destruction, Indigenous rights abuses, and species extinction are not a part of your supply chain.
