On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) at 3rd Dec 2017, Voice grantee
Down Syndrome Care Foundation Indonesia (YAPESDI) asked if everyone could say a short message of support.
"Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well, you're needed by someone."
Everyone took turns on video to share their vision of how persons with disabilities can participate in Indonesian society. What surprised us the most was what came a few days later. Without our knowledge, two other grantees, Pamflet and Gerkatin, worked together on making another video for the Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). They only shared the final product after it was completed. It was a heart warming moment, showing how the Linking and Learning concept can work.
It is the process enabling the sharing of experiences and lessons from (innovative) initiatives. It allows successful projects and approaches to scale-out and scale up. It is learning from mistakes (and in some cases failure) and being open to solutions that takes us out of our comfort zone.
