The hand-woven 'Ikat' cloth is one of the unique characteristics of the indigenous Dayak Desa in the District of Sintang.
From a long time ago, this woven 'Ikat' cloth has been produced by women from the tribes of the Dayak Desa, Dayak Iban and other Dayak tribes.
In Sintang there are at least 300 women actively involved in weaving activities spread across several sub districts.
Over time, the interest of the women to weave ikat started to dwindle. This was influenced by the import of textiles from outside that could be processed easily which almost led to the tradition being completely abandoned.
