Tasmania's Unique Underwater Environment

In Tasmania, we have some of the most unique and diverse marine ecosystems in the world. From wild, exposed coasts and offshore reefs, to deep drowned river valleys, ancient sponge gardens and towering kelp forests. These diverse and unique local environments are home to extraordinary wildlife including migratory whales, dolphins, sea birds, crustaceans, molluscs, and over 600 species of fish including the endangered and utterly unique Handfish. Yet Tasmania’s marine environment faces many threats that need to be addressed immediately if we are to avoid critically degrading our valuable environment, economy and lifestyle.

Dark Lake Productions produced this short film for Ocean Planet Tasmania to use as an educational tool. The project was funded by Ocean Planet Tasmania and by NRM South.

This short film is screening at the 2012 Beneath the Waves Film Festival, USA and then touring with the festival throughout USA, Canada, Africa and Australia.
