OPEN CHANNEL presents the 2007 Short & Sharp Pitching Competition in association with the Human Rights Arts & Film Festival Call for entries!
It's time again for our ever-popular OPEN CHANNEL Short & Sharp Pitching Competition... with a difference! In 2007 OPEN CHANNEL is proud to partner with the inaugural Human Rights Arts & Film Festival (HRAFF) in presenting Short & Sharp.
Human Rights Arts & Film Festival
HRAFF is a newly founded, entirely volunteer run, not-for-profit Festival committed to making human rights accessible, relevant and significant to all Australians.
This year, participants are asked to submit pitching proposals which provide insight into the every-day life of individuals or communities who are experiencing, or have experienced, human rights violations and triumphs.
The human rights themes of this year's festival are:
1. Freedom of Expression
Including gender, cultural, religious and racial expression
2. Right to Livelihood
Including labour, housing, access, the environment and global economic justice.
3. Right to Life, Liberty and Security
Including war, torture, terrorism, and freedom from discrimination.
4. Human Rights in Australia
Including indigenous rights, poverty, disability rights, multiculturalism, equality and immigration issues.
The winning participant will receive funding to complete their film project within a three-month period for screening at the HRAFF, RMIT Capitol Theatre, 29 Nov – 2 Dec 2007.
The project must be no more than 10 minutes in length and can be a short film of any genre (comedy, drama, documentary, experimental). The pitch can be presented by one or more people but must be no more than 5 minutes long.
"For a young filmmaker such as myself, opportunities like this don't come along very often. The chance to get real and instant feedback - on a script that I had to know backwards - was invaluable, both from a creative standpoint as well as a practical one. Thanks Open Channel!"
Adam Del Mastro, winner of the 2006 Short & Sharp Pitching Competition.
As a 'pitcher', you will be one of seven lucky contestants - SHORT & SHARP is your opportunity to hone the spiel and discover what it takes to sell an idea.
