[ENGLISH] The town's motto is 'Si Tou Timou Tumou Tou', a philosophy of live of the Minahasan people made popular by Sam Ratulangi and means 'Humans live to empower others'. Some words in the Manado dialect originate from the colonizers, i.e. the Dutch and the Portuguese. Manado has nowadays become more popular due to the mushrooming malls and restaurants built along the north-south axis, benefiting from the beautiful view of its coast.
