MORNING BRIDGE

From the OK.VIDEO Jakarta International Video Festival 2007. This video was produced during the OK. Video Militia workshop in the city of Bandung at Buton Kultur 21, a group which was established in March 2006 and conducts studies on the visual culture by holding researches, workshops, and art projects. 'Morning Bridge' is like a diary of someone living in Bandung.

(ENGLISH) Known as 'Parijs van Java', or the Paris of Java, and the City of Flower, Bandung is the capital city of West Java. Its high altitude makes it a comfortable place and people come there as tourists. It is also a city of education, as it houses a large number of universities. In 2006, however, the central government grants Bandung yet another status: as the dirtiest city in Indonesia, because of the problems it has due to its lack of garbage dumps. To reach Bandung from Jakarta, one takes a three-hour-long train ride or only two-hour-long car ride. The short distance between Jakarta and Bandung makes the lifestyle of the youth of Bandung differs only slightly with that of the Jakartan youngsters. The retail business and its lifestyle make Bandung a reference point for lifestyle in Indonesia.

(BAHASA-INDONESIA) Dikenal sebagai Parijs van Java (Paris dari Jawa) dan Kota Kembang, Bandung adalah ibu kota provinsi Jawa Barat. Letaknya di dataran tinggi membuat Bandung menjadi salah satu kota tujuan wisata, juga sebagai kota pendidikan di Indonesia dengan banyaknya perguruan tinggi di kota ini. Namun pada 2006, Bandung mendapatkan predikat kota terkotor dari pemerintah karena status darurat sampah yang sempat terjadi. Bandung berjarak sekitar tiga jam naik kereta api dan dua jam naik mobil dari Jakarta. Pendeknya jarak Jakarta-Bandung membuat karakter pergaulan anak muda Bandung hampir sama dengan Jakarta. Bisnis retail yang dipadu dengan gaya hidup membuat Bandung sebagai pusat gaya hidup di Indonesia.

(ENGLISH) The OK. Video Militia workshop in the city was held at Buton Kultur 21, a group which was established in March 2006 and tries to conduct studies on the visual culture by holding researches, workshops, and art projects. The workshop took place on May 16 to 23, 2007, with thirteen participants; most of them were artists or students.

(BAHASA-INDONESIA) Workshop OK. Video Militia di daerah ini dilakukan di Buton Kultur 21, sebuah kelompok yang berdiri pada bulan Maret 2006 dan mencoba membuat kajian budaya visual dengan melakukan riset, workshop dan proyek seni. Workshop berlangsung pada 16-23 Mei 2007, diikuti oleh tigabelas peserta yang sebagian besarnya merupakan seniman dan mahasiswa.

(ENGLISH) The works produced in this workshop are, among others: Azab Perempuan Matre & Pacarnya yang Selingkuh di Kota Kembang (The Fate of the Material Girl and Her Lover, Having an Affair in the City of Flower) is a story about two huge American figurines, Barbie and Superman, which have been turned into figures in the Indonesian puppet theater and tell of a love story taking place in Bandung. Ttk Hbs (Endpt) takes the images of the streets of Bandung, from dawn to dusk. Bandung Berputar-putar (Going around Bandung) is a story about the hobby of touring around Bandung, using the images of gas stations. Sssssshhh is an experimental video, while 32, 27, 29 are images of numbers found in a weight scale. Temani Aku Makan (Accompany Me in My Meals) is about McDonald's and loneliness. In Mentha Piperita, cigarette receipts are worked on to estimate production costs. Cock-Rockin' Roach wonders what it would be like if one's eye is placed on a can of pesticide. Di Mana Bumi Diinjak, Lidah Dijunjung (When in Rome, Eat as Romans Do) is about truth and lies. Hand Phone tells of the addiction of using hand phones. Ngebut Benjut di Super Sirkuit (Speeding at the Super-Circuit) is a video employing the concept of videogame. Memory Circle Journey, Morning Bride, Street Ballz Side, and Surf and the City are a diary of someone living in Bandung.

(BAHASA-INDONESIA) Karya yang dihasilkan dalam workshop ini antara lain: Azab Perempuan Matre & Pacarnya yang Selingkuh di Kota Kembang, kisah dua tokoh mainan raksasa Amerika, Barbie dan Superman, dijadikan wayang yang menceritakan kisah cinta di Bandung. Pada Ttk Hbs, video ini mengambil citra jalanan kota Bandung dari fajar sampai malam. Video Bandung Berputar-putar menceritakan hobi jalan-jalan di kota Bandung melalui citraan pom bensin. Ssssshhh adalah sebuah video eksperimental. Sementara 32, 27, 29, berupa citraan angka-angka pada alat penimbang tubuh; Temani Aku Makan: kisah Mc Donald dan kesepian. Mentha Piperita, bon-bon pembelian rokok dikulik untuk memperkirakan keseimbangan ongkos produksi. Cock-Rockin'_Roach tentang bagaimana jika mata ditaruh di semprotan serangga. Di Mana Bumi Diinjak, Lidah Dijunjung, tentang kebenaran dan kebohongan. Hand Phone, tentang kecanduan menggunakan telepon genggam. Ngebut Benjut di Super Sirkuit, video dengan konsep videogame. Memory Circle Journey, Morning Bridge, Street Ballz Side, dan Surf and The City adalah sebuah catatan harian seseorang yang tinggal di Bandung.
