Nico Tunjanan of Papuan Voices reflects on the deforestation in East Arso, District of Keerom - a bordering West Papuan district of Papua New Guinea. Since the '80s, Keerom has been intensely exploited by pal oil industries. The district, bigger than the whole of Singapore, is also home to many transmigrants from Java and Sulawesi. Alcohol, HIV/AIDS and unemployment problems are chronic.
