This video tells us the encouraging story of Alex Waisimon, the caretaker of Isio Hill forest at Nimbokrang district in Papua, who turned this place into a famous bird watching spot for tourists.
Alex Waisimon is a community leader and conservation worker from Jayapura, the provincial capital of Papua.
Following his work at Red Cross Asia Pacific and the International Labor Organization, his stint as a chef in an Italian Restaurant in Hamburg, and his experience as a tour guide in Bali, Alex returned to Papua in 2014.
The local forest in the Rhepang Muaif area at Nimbokrang District, Jayapura, Papua, where Alex lives, is home to 84 species of birds, especially the Cenderawasih (birds of paradise). Since 2015, Alex turned the area into a bird watching tourist spot and named the place Isio Hill's Bird Watching. This place has slowly become a favorite destination for photographers and birds watching communities from different part of the world.
Alex is for reaping benefits from the forest without destroying it and this ensures that future generations will still have the opportunity to enjoy the forest and the biodiversity that it harbors and it can generate income for their livelihood.
