15 July 2016: Repressive action was taken by Indonesian authorities against Papuan students at the Kamasan boarding house, Yogyakarta.
On Friday, 15 July 2016, student activists planned to stage a rally starting at 9am from the Papua Boarding House (Asrama Papua) Kamasan I (Jl. Kusumanegara) to Ground Zero. The event aimed to support the candidacy of the United Liberation Movement of West Papua (ULMWP) as a full member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group and call for the right to self-determination as a democratic solution for West Papua.
The Yogyakarta Police Force and a handful of civilian-paramilitary officers went to the boarding house and threatened the group.
