Full Description
This footage accompanies a brief report on Melbourne Protests - http://melbourneprotests.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/2011-rise-festival-melbourne-15-october-not-a-protest-more-a-celebration/ ( though this was a celebration more than a protest, even if at times the grim backdrop to the refugee experience was visible). 'RISE is a unique organisation which is governed by refugees/asylum seeker and Ex-detainees. [It] exists to enable refugees to build new lives by providing advice, engaging in community development, enhancing opportunity, and campaigning for refugee rights.
'RISE advocates on its members’ behalf to improve government refugee policies and to generate positive social change in respect to attitudes impacting refugees. Furthermore RISE settlement service coupled with our music and arts projects seek to address the various barriers to successful settlement and empower refugee communities to be active participants in wider society.'
