Full description
For some years now the Fairwear anti-sweatshop campaign has used the Christmas period in this way to draw shoppers' attention to the exploitation of the workers who make the garments they are busily buying at inflated prices. (See for example: 7 December 2001; 16 December 2004 - also reported on Melbourne Indymedia; and 19 December 2006.
This year the focus was on children's wear label 'big by Fiona Scanlan', which has an outlet in the Myer store in the Bourke Street Mall, next to the old GPO where the singers assembled.
The Victorian Trades Union Choir and members of the (now defunct?) John Howard Ladies Auxiliary Fan Club boosted the numbers, and as usual, a few passers-by stopped to join in the fun.
