On Palm Sunday, 1st April 2007, nearly one hundred groups and organisations combined to hold a peace parade and anti-nuclear demonstration in Melbourne under the title 'Nuclear Fools Day'; similar events took place across Australia.

People assembled at the Treasury Gardens before snaking throught the city streets to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl to hear speakers including Senators Bob Brown and Lyn Allison and bands including Combat Wombat. Standing out amongst the parade were the hundred-metre long rainbow banner held by scores of volunteers, and some fearsome predators making a grasp for the planet. Although the numbers were probably not as large as organisers had hoped, the event was still a strong statement for any politicians who could have been listening ...
