In Aceh, there are thousands of women who became heads of households. Many must live in difficult conditions due to the conflict. By 2005, about 53 PEKKA community based organizations were established, with memberships of over 1,200 women while the total 3,000 members are families that spread all over the five main districts; Aceh Besar, Pidie, Bireun, Aceh Timur and Aceh Barat Daya. These community members have succeeded in developing savings and loans activities programs, micro-financial institution, and various micro businesses.
