WE DANCE TO WHATEVER MUSIC IS PLAYING:
the need for environmental education in the Philippines

Produced by: Sheryl Oteyza & Felipe Ruiz

Once upon a time, the Philippines was a very different place. A place where the inhabitants once had a special relationship with their natural environment. But this changed as western dominance over the Philippine islands brought about a new ideology, one that people living within their natural environment are poor and that they should exploit their natural wealth.

Filipinos have the uncanny gift to be able to accept and integrate new ideologies into their culture; to be able to dance to whatever music is playing. This time around, Filipinos are dancing to a new tune – one which had been played in the distant past – that is the tune of environmentalism.

This documentary outlines the difficulties Filipinos currently endure with regards to their environment and the solutions brought forward by individuals, groups and organizations.
