Filmmaker Jonathan Stack films and shares in Jakarta
After spending the week at the beautiful Ubud, Bali for the Global Social Change Film Festival, filmmaker Jonathan Stack packed up his bags and joined EngageMedia in the bustling Jakarta on April 19, 2011. In this city, Jonathan shoots for his current film production on the world's growing population, screens his two FARM films, meets with young filmmakers and lectures on social change filmmaking.
In the 3-day trip, Stack talks with representatives from the Islamic Cleric Council (MUI), the Grand Istiqlal Mosque, political observer and communicator Wimar Witoelar, and interviewed just everyone he met at the markets and railway slum houses.
This morning Stack exchanges stories with six young filmmakers at the breakfast workshop, and later in the afternoon speaks at a lecture/workshop on social change filmmaking with students, filmmakers, campaigners, academics and others at Kineforum, Taman Islamil Marzuki.
Stack's Jakarta visit is organised by EngageMedia, the Global Social Change Film Festival and Institute, the Jakarta Arts Council (DKJ) and Kineforum, and funded by The Ford Foundation.
As Stack shared to the students on breaking down closed doors in filmmaking, "If you're a sweet talker, you can find ways to get inside, but if you do it with heart, then you can get access to do it the second time."
