A documentary outlining some of the issues about Tasmanian forestry. One tree that was to be woodchipped for export is given to over 30 artists and craftspeople. The exhibition of the art works and furniture toured Australia for over three years. An on-line auction of the pieces after the exhibition raised over $10,000. A moving 30 minute documentary produced in 2001, showing how people's lives are affected by the woodchipping plantation industry in Tasmania. Interviews with those living on the land - organic farmers, retirees and others - about how the clearing and poisoning of land affects them directly, and with people such as eco-tourism operators who tell how sustainable industries are put under threat by the destructive practices of large forestry corporations. Images of the incredible beauty of wild forests in Tasmania are contrasted by the devastation and plantation monocultures that threaten the bio-diversity of this region. Read more…
