A documentary outlining some of the issues about Tasmanian forestry. One tree that was to be woodchipped for export is given to over 30 artists and craftspeople. The exhibition of the art works and furniture toured Australia for over three years. An on-line auction of the pieces after the exhibition raised over $10,000. As woodchips, the tree was valued at $350-$450 if that. What is the value of one tree ?

Full Description

In the woodchipping state of Australia, Tasmania, one tree that was part of a chipping coupe was donated by Forestry Tasmania to a group of over 30 artists.  An exhibition was made of the pieces created from that one tree, in a demonstration of how much more value can be gained from a tree, if it is to be processed in some way, than in woodchips.  The ancient forests of Tasmania are being woodchipped and exported to Japan for production of cardboard boxes, comic books and toilet paper.  This industry is supported by the Tasmanian government and the Australian government.
