Three supporters of the Save Lake Cowal campaign took the journey to the lake on Monday 18 April. Waking up on Tuesday morning on the edge of Lake Cowal to the sounds of birds, water lapping at it's shores and the constant drone of Barrick's mine, Nat, Damian and Ryan explored the lake by foot and then set off from Forbes in a Cessna to take photos and video from the air. These photos clearly show the stupidity of building a mine in a lake bed.

Full Description

Three supporters of the Save Lake Cowal campaign took the journey our to the lake on Monday 18 April. Waking up on Tuesday morning on the edge of Lake Cowal to the sounds of birds, water lapping at it's shores and the constant drone of Barrick's mine, Nat, Damian and Ryan explored the lake by foot then set off from Forbes in a cessna to take photos and video from the air. These photos clearly show the stupidity of building a mine in a lake bed.

The selection of photos is set to Kev Carmody's song 'Thou Shalt Not Steal'. The song donated to the campaign has been the backdrop of the Lake Cowal dance which has been performed all over the country including inside the mine site when supporters shut down the mine in 2008.

Wiradjuri Traditional Owners have been resisting against Barrick's Gold mine in their culturally and ecologically significant lands for over 10 years. Using direct action, community awareness, speaking tours in Australia and Canada where Barrick's head office is based, attending the United Nations Permanent forum on Indigenous Issues and waging a protracted and bitter legal battle that has stalled operations over the years Wiradjuri and their supporters will continue to fight until the bitter end.

The Save Lake Cowal campaign is calling for Barrick to stop it's operations and the ongoing destruction of Lake Cowal, to rehabilitate what they have destroyed and leave.
