Welcome to Plone

Congratulations! You have successfully installed Plone.

If you're seeing this instead of the web site you were expecting, the owner of
this web site has just installed Plone. Do not contact the Plone Team
or the Plone mailing lists about this.

The first thing you should do is to set up your site by visiting the
Site Setup area. Become familiar with Plone by
getting one of the Plone books,
and make sure you look at the available
add-on products
and
online documentation.

Quick Start

Some useful hints if you are new to Plone:

Access key + 4 focuses the LiveSearch field - you can start writing
your search terms straight away, and have all your information at your
fingertips without leaving the keyboard. For information about how to use
access keys in your particular browser, see the
    Accessibility page.

Plone will automatically be displayed in the language your browser asks for.
If you need more control over languages in Plone, install Plone Language
Tool from the Site Setup. If you need
to maintain your content in multiple languages, download
    LinguaPlone.

Workflow states are color coded if you are logged in, so it is easy to keep
track of content security and visibility. Try the Site Map with color
coding for a visual security inspection of your site!

If you prefer working with pure HTML, Structured Text or ReStructured Text
markup instead of using a visual editor, you can disable it in
    your preferences.

EngageMedia welcomes contributions from a variety of styles and
genres, whether it's documentary, fiction, experimental or as yet
un-categorisable.

Our key focus is to present video that promotes
social change. We want to promote work that challenges corporate
dominance and government arrogance, that exposes the people and
mechanisms behind environmental destruction or human rights abuses. We
want to build media that questions how the world works.

We are looking to
create a more thoughtful space for works that have significant impact
on viewers but we also want the space to be diverse and open to people
with many different approaches.

Submission Guidelines

We accept work that is:

well researched

well produced and edited

focusses on the South East Asia and Pacific regions

aids in the development of social movements

is innovative, engaging or entertaining

constructive, critical of the status quo or highlights key issues

We don't accept:

work that promotes sexism, racism or homophobia or discrimates against dis-empowered members of the community.

advertising or advertorial

Open Content

EngageMedia operates on the principles of open content.
We want visitors to this site to be able to freely copy and
redistribute the works here as long as it is for non-profit purposes.
Work should preferably be share-alike which means "I share if you share". Apart
from the ethics of such a policy, we believe it is practically
impossible to stop people reproducing your work once it is in digital
form. This is also a positive, however, as people will help you
distribute your work around the globe if they enjoy it.

This
site cannot directly generate revenue for producers, although we would
like to implement a donations based micro-payment system a bit further
down the line, so other Members may contribute financially, on a
voluntary basis, to future work by the Producers whose videos they
enjoy or want to see more of. Indirectly EngageMedia and Internet
distribution in general may expose filmmakers to other revenue streams
such as festivals, compilations and broadcast.

EngageMedia uses the Creative Commons
licenses as they are currently the most developed. When you publish
your work you will be asked to specify a creative commons licence.

What happens to your work once you have submitted it?

Once
you upload your work to the site you'll be sent an email telling you
the server has received it. The site moderators will then view the
video and publish or reject it. You'll receive an email about this too.
If you continue publishing solid content we'll invite you to become a
site moderators and help review and approve other peoples content too.

This page is advice for our beta testers on error reporting and general feedback.

Welcome Beta Testers! This development site already has new and improved code compared to our production site, and will be updated regularly with new functionality to be tested. There should always be something new to have a play with as we go along, especially in this first release period.

We'd like you to have a look around the site and give us feedback about how intuitive the interface is. You could browse the video content already available, set up a Member profile, contact another EngageMedia member through the site, or have a go at uploading some Video. You can also post News and Events.

DON'T BE TOO POLITE! We need your criticisms as well as your positive comments when we hopefully have it right.

Please post your comments and bug reports to the beta testers email list, where we can discuss them or contact us via email directly. If you encounter an error message while using the website, post a copy of the error message text along with your email. You could list improvements that you think could be made to make the site better, give us positive feedback on what you think really works, or point out flaws in the usability.

http://lists.engagemedia.org/mailman/listinfo/betatesters

We anticipate there will be more bugs to report and areas to work on at the start. As time goes on there will be fewer problems as we take your ideas on board and the site becomes more polished. We'll try to be as responsive to the issues you raise as we can, whilst adhering to our roadmap for software development.

Here's a list of things you can do on the EngageMedia website:

- Upload videos via a publishing web form. Video uploading functionality will develop as we go forward including support for large video files and automatic transcoding.

- Assign a Creative Commons license to your video.

- Download Videos – Browse for videos on the site by Member, Topic, Genre, Country or through Search

- Download via BitTorrent – try using a BitTorrent client to download videos via peer 2 peer networks

- Vodcasting – copy a video feed into a client such as ITunes or Democracy Player which will automatically download new videos to your computer when a new video is updated. You could subscribe to the Latest Videos feed or to a specific Member's video feed, or pick your feed by Topic or Country. This feed is available in your videos folders by right clicking on the orange RSS link towards the top right hand corner of the page.

- Profile Page - create a page about you and your video work which includes a listing of your video contributions to EngageMedia.

- Post an Event about a video screening, workshop or festival.

- Post a News item about developments in the world of video activism, tactical media or the new participatory culture breeding on the Internet.

- Contact other Members of EngageMedia to discuss collaborations or just to say hello.

Please do start uploading video to the site, but keep in mind that you can only upload via a web form so anything more than 100 megabytes might drop out before it's fully uploaded - depending on your internet connection - so keep your video files under 100 megabytes. Your video can be anything – a Quicktime, Windows Media, AVI or MPEG4, though we encourage the use of open source formats such as xVid and Ogg Theora.

http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/
http://www.xiph.org/theora

Also do not use EngageMedia as a distribution point until we are out of beta testing and have produced a fully functional public release. We can't guarantee that the video you upload will necessarily survive the beta-testing period. Though we aim to preserve your data we make no promises, as there could be errors that mean videos are lost or corrupted, so at this stage please use this for test content only.

If you want to see some of the tech issues we are currently dealing with you can check out our tracker. This tracker is our tool for tracking web development issues, which are lodged as tickets – either bugs or features to be added in future.

http://engagemedia.org/projects/report/3

For the moment we're keeping the beta testing under wraps so please this will be a closed group of testers for the time being. If you know somebody who might want to help then please send us an email with their contact details.

What can you do on EngageMedia

Upload your video work - we recommend you don't upload more than 150mb for the moment.

Download video - search our growing archive of videos, or browse by Genre, Topic or Country.

Watch videos in the browser window.

Assign a Creative Commons license to your video.

Vodcasting - generate a video feed which you can then import into a client such as iTunes or Democracy Player which will automatically download new videos to your
computer when a new video is updated. You could subscribe to the Latest
Videos feed or to a specific Member's video feed, or pick your feed by
Topic or Country.

Create your own video channel - no need to install or set up anything. When you upload a video it is automatically added to your personal video podcasting feed and allows you to add your own custom logo for your channel.

Workspace - use this area to upload videos, events, files or pages. EngageMedia will be your own workspace, not just a place to
publish or watch video.

Profile Page - create a page about you and your video work which includes a listing of your video contributions to EngageMedia.

Post an Event about a video screening, workshop or festival.

Post a News item about developments in the world of video activism, tactical media or the new participatory culture breeding on the Internet.

Contact other Members of EngageMedia to discuss collaborations or just to say hello.

Comment on videos after you've watched them.

Send someone an email about a page you want them to see by clicking the icon.

Future Features
