At the European Social Forum in Paris in 2003 a dramatic debate occurred between the co-author of Empire, autonomist theorist Toni Negri, and Alex Callinicos, one of the main theorists for the British Socialist Workers party. The debate was forced outside the small theatre it had been delegated for by the popular protest of around a thousand people. This is a short series of clips documenting the event and some of the key points.

A short documentary exploring Italy's Telestreet phenomena, a network of close to 200 micro pirate TV transmitters that begun in the summer of 2002 to counter the media monopoly of Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. Perhaps the most interesting tactical media initiative of recent times, the TeleStreet network combines both old and new media, lo-tech and hi-tech.

It's almost 10 years since tens of thousands of people converged on Crown Casino in Melbourne to shut down the World Economic Forum. With the 10 year anniversary in mind EngageMedia is looking to compile a range of s11 videos up on the site. If you have one, or know someone that does, ask them to put it online. Currently there are very few s11 videos online resulting in a huge amount of history being lost.

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated in Kuala Lumpur July 9 for free and fair elections and an end to endemic corruption. The protest was met was extensive use of force by the Police. Embedded here is a selection of videos about the demonstration and background to the campaign.

EngageMedia.org has upgraded to the latest release of Plumi video sharing system, version 3.1. The upgrade brings a number of additional features and fixes, most importantly improvements to our "Callout" feature, better "transcoding" of videos and fixes to the Indonesian translation of the site. A full list of improvements in describe in the post.

From July 22-25 Combine Resource Institution held Jagongang Media Rakyat 2010 (The People's Media Festival) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The festival brought together dozens of progressive media organisations, primarily from Java, to present and discuss people orientated approaches to media production and distribution.
