As part of the 10/10/10 global climate work party organised by 350.org - one of more than 8000 events around the world, people from Victoria gathered outside the Hazelwood brown coal fired power station, one of the dirtiest, most polluting power stations in the industrial world.
After listening to a couple of brief speeches, the crowd of about 300 people marched to the power station car park where a solar power tower with 170 heliostats was erected to show the alternative energy sources available to replace Hazelwood.

24 year old Leah from Tuvalu addressed the Melbourne Walk Against Warming Climate Rally detailing some of the effects of climate change being felt now and calling for an ambitious, fair and legally binding climate treaty from the Copenhagen Climate Conference.

On June 13, 2009 thousands of people around Australia rallied for action on Climate Change. On a cold and bleak Melbourne winter day about 4,000 people gathered at the State Library where they heard from Greens Senator Bob Brown and 'Climate Code Red' author and climate activist David Spratt, and other speakers. The crowd then marched down to the Melbourne Town Hall where a sitdown protest was held outside the State Conference of the Australian Labor Party.

Damien Lawson, Friends of the Earth Australia national Climate Justice co-ordinator called for a campaign of civil disobedience if politicians continue to do very little on reducing carbon emissions and continue giving preferential treatment to the Coal Industry and substantial subsidisation of energy intensive industries at the expense of investment in renewable and solar energy and the creation of green jobs.

A huge crowd estimated in news reports at 40,000 people, participated in the Walk against Warming in Melbourne to send a message to Australian Climate Change Minister Senator Penny Wong and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at the Copenhagen COP15 UN Climate Change conference. Around the globe (350.org) people protested for an ambitious , fair and binding climate treaty, many calling for higher emission reduction targets to stabilise carbon in the atmosphere at 350ppm to avoid dangerous climate change.
