The Last Stand
The Last Stand is a new action-focused environmental organisation who are kicking off a markets campaign aimed at Australian retail companies who make some serious bucks from forest trashing. We are campaigning for a fast track exit of retailers from selling native forests, here in Australia and overseas.
The Last Stand crew have been variously involved in direct action and campaigns related to nukes, forests, refugees, human rights, whaling and climate change... amongst others.
We have worked with a whole bunch of most excellent organisations in Australia and overseas, including Sea Shepherd, Friends of the Earth,Kanuguba, Rising Tide, Huon Valley Environment Centre, Still Wild Still Threatened, Anti Nuclear Alliance (WA), the Greens and the Wilderness Society.
We look forward to working with crew around the country to keep the spotlight on those who profit from forest destruction.
In particular we would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of this land; and give respect to their long and continuing connection to country, and the environmental lessons we could learn from them.
We are absolutely committed to nonviolence. And we are absolutely committed to taking whatever peaceful means necessary to take a stand for our forests.
We are not committed to negotiation, playing politics, lobbying or being reasonable. There are plenty of other good folks out there who do that.
We like direct action. We like social media. We like fun, creative campaigning.
And we really like forests.
We'll see you soon.

Early on Monday morning, in one of the most horrific cable logged clearfells Australia has ever seen, 25 activists unfurled one of the most MASSIVE banners the world has ever seen to protest retailer Harvey Norman’s continued sale of wood products sourced from native forests. Three endangered wedge tailed eagles soared overhead as the giant 60 x 18m banner, stating ‘No Harvey Norman No! Don’t buy forest destruction’ was unfurled.
