In the name of the people of West Papua, we would like to say thank you to the Government of Australia, which has granted permanent residency to 39 political asylum seekers from West Papua, who came looking for protection because Papua is not safe. We the people of West Papua still living on Papuan soil, who continue to suffer, ask that the same protection can be granted to us.

Bouganville Copper Ltd, subsidiary of Rio Tinto plans to reopen the worlds largest open cut mine at Panguna, against the wishes of local landholders and the majority of Bouganvillians. The exploitation of Bouganvilles resources by BCL, which caused a war of independence from PNG, must not recommence.

Al Jazeera has bowed to Indonesian pressure not to screen the West Papua documentary 'Pride of Warriors. The film, which voiced West Papuan perspectives of the Indonesian military presence and human rights abuses, was due to be screen on Al Jazeera English channel on Thursday night at 6:30pm.
