Bouganville Copper Ltd, subsidiary of Rio Tinto plans to reopen the worlds largest open cut mine at Panguna, against the wishes of local landholders and the majority of Bouganvillians. The exploitation of Bouganvilles resources by BCL, which caused a war of independence from PNG, must not recommence.

Untold stories of Vanuatu's Independence struggle are revealed after original 8mm footage from Vanuatu's Independence struggle had been recovered from the tropical mould. Narrating the scenes of protest, peacemaking and a journey across the Pacific, Chief Shem Rarua pieces together a patchwork of events from the turbulent period into a story of the struggle for land and freedom, begining from the time of his great-grandparents, up until the present day.

The Vete Association takes direct action to reclaim their customary lands from the Vanuatu Government and foreign investors, occupying vacant lands and graffitying on 'private property'. 85 of their members are currently summoned to court as yet without charges, and plan to contest based on Vanuatu's constitution article 73 which states 'All land in the Republic of Vanuatu belongs to the indigenous custom owners and their descendants.'

Al Jazeera has bowed to Indonesian pressure not to screen the West Papua documentary 'Pride of Warriors. The film, which voiced West Papuan perspectives of the Indonesian military presence and human rights abuses, was due to be screen on Al Jazeera English channel on Thursday night at 6:30pm.
