- FreedomFilmFest is back and will launch its campaign to promote human rights via film making. The theme for FFF2012 is“Democracy: Who’s the Boss?” Since the 2008 general elections, citizens are increasingly aware of the power they hold as voters in a country that practices democracy; but are our voices as citizens heard, and are the elected representatives doing their job? These are important questions- more so in light of the upcoming general elections. All film makers- aspiring or professional- are invited to send in their film proposals based on this year’s theme. The three best proposals will be awarded RM6000 to produce a film based on their respective proposals. In conjunction with the launch of FFF2012, we are inviting a guest panel to discuss and give their views on this year’s FFF theme. We look forward to your participation and attendance at the launch of FreedomFilmFest 2012.

- Village Film Festival (VFF) is an anual International videomaker residence and film festival. Organised by JaF and Sunday Screen (videomaker collective from bandung). There are seven village that participated in this festival. Four Villlage will take place for residence, and the other village will prepare for presentation to make a film screening that was made in this festival. Participants invited to residency for two weeks in Jatiwangi District. Distributed to various villages, placed in the house of the villagers, collaboration with the villagers and village government, then create site specific works of film for screening in the end of festival. In this festival villagers become a partner or friend at work both in ideas, issues, or players in film project. Moreover, the villagers can be trained to maping the expectations and desires, problems and solutions, fear and courage, despair and joy, rejection and understanding, love and panic, the discontinuity and relations system, hard work and versatility, comfort and anxiety. For us, basically, all the films contain elements of documentation. The film can be like a window to see what happens in life. This is kind of way to archiving of village life. This year, Village Film Festival change the name into Village Video Festival, because video is more representative and complex to explain than film, such a public service video, village profile, film, animation, documentaries, video art, etc.. In cooperation with ruangrupa, Village Video Festival 2011 involving 5 countries with 4 participants from Indonesia and 4 participants from other countries.
