OPEN CHANNEL - Video Slam 2008
VIDEO SLAM will again kick off with a two-day workshop, from Tuesday 6pm 20 May to Thursday 6pm 22 May, wherein participants will learn how to incorporate Creative Commons-licensed content into a short film produced on site at Horse Bazaar, Melbourne’s Digital Arts bar, in under 48 hours. The finished work will be screened at the VIDEO SLAM forum and re-appropriated into the live re-mix event.

EngageMedia will be presenting and screening short documentary films at this years (2008) Melbourne Social (Mini) Forum. The Forum will focus on the themes of Transport, Food Production and Urban Planning, and their place in a vibrant, ecologically sustainable and equitable community. The films presented by EngageMedia will touch on these themes as well as highlight some of the more outstanding documentaries that have been recently posted. Cambodian sex workers fight for their rights. In 2004, US pharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences, the University of California, the University of NSW and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation were involved in setting up a drug trial on 960 sex workers in Cambodia. This is the sex workers story.
CHIKA: A Documentary Performance
This is the story of Chika Honda. Chika is a real person. She is a Japanese woman who spent a decade in Australian jails for a crime she has always insisted she did not commit. She was one of a Japanese tour group who were arrested for importation of heroin in 1992. She was released on parole in November 2002 and is now living in Japan.
