Indonesian Network, Partnerships and Research Coordinator
We are looking for an Indonesia based Network, Partnerships and Research Coordinator to join our team. The position involves outreach and strategic network and partnership building along with conducting research into digital video distribution and helping to establish a Southeast Asia EngageMedia node. NOTE: This position is intended for Indonesians. DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SEPTEMBER 15.
Summary
EngageMedia is a burgeoning online video, networking, training and technology
project focussed on social justice and environmental issues in the
Asia-Pacific region.
We run the online video sharing site EngageMedia.org, produce the free and open source video sharing platform Plumi, initiated an international network of social justice online video projects called Transmission (including organising events in Rome and West Java, Indonesia) and conduct regular trainings in free software and digital video distribution. In 2009 we will produce a regional video festival in conjunction with Friends of the Earth and conduct a range of trainings and events throughout Australia and Southeast Asia.
Our core aims are:

To assist individuals and groups producing thought-provoking and informative media focused on social and environmental issues distribute their work.

To develop the digital media and Internet skills of independent video makers and marginalised communities.

To foster a regional network of producers, to assist each other in producing and distributing their work in the Asia-Pacific region.

To produce an online video delivery platform under a free software license that others are free to use and modify for their own media projects.
The EngageMedia Collective Inc. is a not-for-profit association, operating internally on democratic principles with all members engaged in the decision making process.
We are in a new period of growth and will be doubling the number of staff from 4 to 8 over the coming 6 months. We are looking for an Indonesia based Network, Partnerships and Research Coordinator to join our tight knit team. You will work primarily with the Asia-Pacific Network Program Manager, an Indonesia based Content and Training coordinator and a Southeast Asia based Content and Training Coordinator.
Roles and Responsibilities

Conduct research into the digital distribution needs and effective strategies for infrastructure creation, skills-building and training in the Asia-Pacific

Develop strategic partnerships with relevant organisations (web-based news sites, film festivals, etc) within Indonesia and Asia

Promotion of EngageMedia.org site and other projects within Asia

Outreach and networking with relevant video and campaigning organisations, including the creation of six “skills-building partnerships”

Establish a small Indonesian EngageMedia office and coordinate associated administrative requirements

Organising events and screenings
-
Co-organising multiple small to medium scale trainings in Indonesia, including a 3 day, 30 person gathering

Assist with reporting on projects

Assist Program Manager and Finance and Administration Officer in managing project budgets

Contribute to the overall strategy and management of EngageMedia
Skills and Attributes
- Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia

Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English

Highly adept at using the web for coordination

Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and take initiative
Knowledge and Experience

Minimum 3 years of engagement with social-justice and/or environmental campaigning or independent arts/media practice

Knowledge of film and video culture

Knowledge of a range of multimedia software, free/open source software knowledge an advantage
Additional Desirable Experience

Production of videos dealing with social or environmental themes

Work, Location and Travel

The position is 3 days a week with the possibility of this increasing

The position requires a high degree of flexibility, given the trainings some long hours and travel is required within Indonesia, and occasionally to other parts of Southeast Asia or Australia

Wage is competitive with local NGO staff wages

The position is for at least 2 years, including a 6 month provisional period

The work is based in Indonesia, the exact location will be dependent on coordinating with the Indonesia based Content and Training Coordinator. Our preference is for these two positions to work from the same space

EngageMedia will provide a laptop for the period of work if required and a subsidy for Internet and work space
