Founded in April 2006, Kampung Halaman is a non-profit organization that fosters the use of popular audio-visual media in community-based programs, particularly targeting youth, in pursuing transformation towards a better society.
Youth Path 1208: School of Life is a reflection of Indonesian youth on International Youth Day, August 12, 2009.
Presently, approximately 40 million Indonesian young people do not have space in which to express their opinions and perspectives in their own communities. The energy, idealism and creativity of young people are often overlooked in formulating a social model for the continuity and development of the community. In five years, some of them will undertake new responsibilities as adults and begin to work, get married and start their own families.
With the awareness of this situation and various findings about the conditions of youth, Kampung Halaman, with support from Ford Foundation, designed this activity.
From June through July 2009, “Youth Street”, a media workshop based on youth issues, involved 9 facilitators, 215 participants from 19 regions throughout Indonesia. The workshop produced 36 community-based videos that were shown on August 12, 2009, at 42 screening points. 22 communities serving as local partners supported this activity.
This year, Youth Path 1208 adopted the theme, “School of Life, according to Cicilia Maharani, Program Manager of Kampung Halaman, this theme is “an invitation for all of use to learn from everyone and everywhere in our lives”.
