Members of the Meranti Bay communities who formed an action committee called the Kampar Peninsula Rescue Society Forum (FMPSK), recently held a demonstration inside the production area of PT Riau Andalan Pulp and Paper (RAPP). Many have been infuriated by RAPP's continued logging in the area, which belongs to the indegenous people of Meranti Bay. Since December 11, 2011, more than 100 activists and villagers from Jambi and Riau camped in front of the Indonesian Parliament in Jakarta. They said the government has allowed private companies evicting villagers for the expansion of their explorations. Many of the campers also stitched their lips in protest. Kondisi ini mendorong Koalisi Independen untuk Demokratisasi Penyiaran (KIDP) mengajukan Judicial review atas UU No 32 Tahun 2002 tentang Penyiaran. Tak banyak orang yang menoleh kearah sungai ini kala melintas di atas jembatan ini. Sungai yang mengecil dengan tebaran sampah dipinggir dan tengah aliran, ditambah aneka bangunan yang menghimpit badan sungai, memang bukan pemandangan menarik. Puluhan warga berjoged diiringi lagu yang mengolok-olok polisi yang berjaga di Pengadilan Negeri Palu, Sulawesi Tengah, pada Rabu (04/01/2012), saat sidang kasus AAL, pelajar yang dituduh mencuri sandal jepit. Mahasiswa, aktivis, ibu-ibu hingga anak-anak menyebut polisi sebagai preman dan kurang ajar. Mereka mengungkapkan kekesalan pada aparat polisi yang telah bertindak sewenang-wenang. Aksi joged itu sebagai bentuk protes terhadap kepolisian karena menyeret seorang anak berumur 15 tahun ke pengadilan dengan tuduhan mencuri sandal.
