Pada tanggal 26 juni 2005, Suwandi dan Anas HT, dua petani karet dari Kecamatan Koto Gasib, Kab.Siak - Provinsi Riau, berhasil menciptakan teknologi tepat guna yang mereka sebut "Selendang Polan", yaitu sebuah metode penyadapan getah pohon karet yang berfungsi melindungi bidang sadap karet dari air hujan. Berbeda dengan cara-cara lama yang dilakukan para petani tradisional lainnya, dimana setiap kali hujan tiba petani karet akan berhenti bekerja karena air hujan akan merusak produksi getah pohon karet. Cara seperti ini sudah berlangsung lama, bahkan sudah berabad-abad. Namun dengan "Selendang Polan", mereka tidak lagi bergantung dengan musim, hujan pun tetap terus bisa bekerja dan tentu ini akan meningkatkan produktifitas panenan mereka. Temuan Suwandi dan Anas HT ini, telah menjadi kebanggaan Pemda. Terbukti, "Selendang Polan" mereka ditampilkan dalam Gelar Nasional Teknologi Tepat Guna (TTG) XII di Yogyakarta. Read more…

Kia Tupato (Be Careful) features the late Sir John Turei as he presents Maori views on Genetic Modification with reference to the land and the teaching of his Grandparents. Sir John was considered a bridge between the cultures of Maori and non-Maori in New Zealand, and received many honours from the Government including a Knighthood.
