Since 1971, Papuan women have been selling vegetables, fruit, fish and spices. They set up business by clearing space in the center of town beside the Anafre River in Jayapura. Later in the years, migrants also came and began trading there. The are became a market. But the local government's effort to clean up the town center resulted the eviction of the market traders.
