Many urban Indonesians are now aware of the recent torture of Papuan farmers, from a video that circulated over Youtube, but the people in the Jayawijaya Mountains, where the torture took place, know nothing of the international implications of this video and how they may be impacted. EngageMedia works to change this situation, by bridging online with offline communications, reaching some of the most marginalised communities in Indonesia.
Social change occurs at every level of society, not just in government, but on the streets, in the forests and factories. EngageMedia works with activist media makers and assists them in reaching the broader communities they need to influence.
Yerry and Enrico at Camp Sambel, Malang, Indonesia, June 2010
EngageMedia’s Indonesian and Australian teams will be discussing this and other issues at Gertrude’s Brown Couch.
