In just over a week EngageMedia and more than 500 people will gather in Manila for RightsCon Southeast Asia. Here are our top 5 actions for RightsCon!
1. Register for RightsCon!
This event will sell out, so if you have colleagues and friends who are thinking of attending, encourage them to register now and share this code with them for 25% off registration: FOF25.
2. Plan your travel to Manila!
Opening ceremonies begin 24 March 9am, registration begins at 8am and the conference concludes at 6pm 25 March followed by a special EngageMedia 10 Year Anniversary party that evening.
Satellite Events will be hosted by our friends and partners and begin Saturday 21 March.
Information about airport transfers and getting around Manila are available here (https://www.rightscon.org/eventinfo). If you have any questions, send us a note at accessnow.org and we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction.
3. Prepare for Outcomes: Learn about the Program and Participants
Think of RightsCon as one giant, two-day global workshop aimed at protecting the open internet and the digital rights of its users. Prepare for engagement and substantively advancing your work.
We’ve built a knockout program with lively workshops, interactive panels, and engaging debates. You can see the draft program here (pdf) and highlights from the program.
From top human rights experts to corporate leaders, to front line activists to investors, individuals from over 50 countries as well as representatives from multiple governments are coming with the express goal of learning, strategizing, networking, and forging new territory. Check out the list of speakers that is growing daily.
4. Engage Respectfully
Remember this conference is covering some sensitive issues in a culturally and politically diverse region. It is important that we respect each others viewpoints, even as we might disagree with them, and create a safe space to develop strategies and alliances to keep the Internet open and protect the digital rights of it users.
5. Live Blog and Tweet with Us
If you’re interested in live blogging part of all of the Conference, we’re organizing contributors. For details, send a note of interest to conference [AT] accessnow.org and we’ll be in touch!
Tweet, now, Tweet later! Follow us @RightsCon and use #rightscon when you tweet about the event!
