Applications for the 2022 South and Southeast Asia Digital Rights School are now open! EngageMedia, through its work under the Greater Internet Freedom program, is hosting a three-day digital rights school from April 14 to 16 to empower new and upcoming digital rights defenders in seven focus countries in the region: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. The deadline for applications is on March 31, 2022.
The program aims to equip participants with the knowledge to launch digital rights campaigns, activities, and projects at the regional, national, or sub-national levels, that are rooted in the realities in their respective countries and communities.
The South and Southeast Asia Digital Rights School will focus on the following topics that are deemed of common interest among the focus countries:
- Basics of Digital Rights;
- Online Freedom of Expression;
- Online Privacy;
- Digital Inclusion and Connectivity;
- Data Protection;
- Online Disinformation and Hate Speech;
- Digital Hygiene; and
- Mainstreaming Digital Rights at the National and Sub-national Levels.
This opportunity is open for individuals coming from civil society organisations, academe, youth groups, public-interest advocacy organisations, and other grassroots formations. Members of at-risk and marginalised communities are encouraged to apply.
Selected participants will also be supported in producing a blog post about their engagement and learnings in the digital rights school. The blog post will be published first on EngageMedia.org.
Interested parties may apply through the form below on or before Thursday, March 31, 2022, 23:59 UTC+7 (Bangkok time). For further inquiries about this opportunity, please reach out to EngageMedia Project and Communications Manager Vino Lucero.
