From December 13 to 22, Cinemata will stream 15 Philippine short films from the 6th Likhang Mulat: Film Movements Festival, commemorating the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
For the third time, Cinemata partners with the Far Eastern University’s Department of Communication to present the 6th FEU Film Movements Festival, also known as Likhang Mulat. The festival continues its mission to foster conversations on social issues and human rights through cinema.
Expanding the festival’s reach beyond its campus roots, Cinemata will exclusively host the online screening of the 15 finalist short films. This partnership reflects a shared vision of fostering socially conscious media that inspires and provokes change.
The festival kicks off with an opening ceremony and film premiere of the finalists on December 10, followed by the awarding ceremony on December 12. The films, created by FEU film students, delve into themes of human rights, identity, and social justice. These works exemplify the festival’s commitment to empowering the next generation of filmmakers while contributing to the alternative cinema movement.
Since its inception in 2019, Likhang Mulat has been a platform for artistic expression and advocacy, embodying FEU’s philosophy of “may alam, may pakialam” (socially informed and involved). By collaborating with Cinemata, the festival amplifies the voices of young creators, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for critical discourse and societal transformation.
Herwin Cabasal, professor at the Department of Communication at Far Eastern University, emphasises the significance of the partnership:
“The Cinemata platform shares the same educational philosophy with the FEU Department of Communication of utilizing media for the greater purpose—for the service of the people. Cinemata also advocates for a film culture that presents social realism and themes on human rights and dignity of life. The platform allows the social advocacy films of our communication students to be screened via online hosting. Our films now are not only limited to the physical venues of our university but can already be accessed by the general public anytime, anywhere. Here, students may also gain constructive feedback from the netizens who watch their films.”
