In its second year of partnership with the Far Eastern University Department of Communication (FEU DepComm), Cinemata is once again hosting TAM DokyuFest, a documentary film festival featuring works by Filipino students probing into relevant social issues in Philippine society.
Fourteen documentary films by FEU DepComm students will stream exclusively on Cinemata from May 3-14, 2024. The films are now accessible through this playlist. Select films will also be featured on the Cinemata homepage and promoted via the Cinemata Newsletter and social media channels.
With the theme “Dahil Mahalaga Ang Bawat Kuwento” (Because Every Story Matters), this year’s TAM DokyuFest reaffirms the importance of valuing and preserving the diverse narratives within Philippine society. Through their documentary films, students illuminate the realities and challenges faced by Filipinos, offering a platform for empathy, understanding, and action.
The acronym TAM, representing Truth, Advocacy, and Media, encapsulates the essence of this festival. It underscores the commitment of FEU communication students to produce media content that goes beyond mere entertainment, advocating for social change and amplifying the voices of marginalised communities.
Cinemata’s involvement in hosting and promoting TAM DokyuFest marks a milestone in a partnership to promote truthful storytelling and social advocacy through documentary filmmaking. In 2023, EngageMedia and FEU DepComm inked a three-year partnership to showcase the talent of FEU DepComm students and promote social issue films that highlight the voices and narratives of the Filipino people.
About Cinemata Visions
The online screening of TAM DokyuFest 2024, in partnership with the FEU Department of Communication, is part of Cinemata Visions, an initiative that spotlights notable works from film schools and learning institutions dedicated to cinema in the Asia-Pacific. Cinemata Visions highlights video endeavours such as workshops and competitions initiated by advocacy groups dedicated to the youth. It aims to harness creative film outputs and encourage young filmmakers to produce more social issue works by providing a free, independent, and secure video hosting platform beyond the usual corporate platforms.
EngageMedia developed Cinemata to support film initiatives like TAM DokyuFest in highlighting essential yet underheard stories and inspiring collective action among Asia-Pacific audiences.
