SOLFest team work independent and not working with or for government and other state institutions. We are horizontal and not centralized based. CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Newport Beach Film Festival will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with an action-packed line up of independent and studio films from around the globe. From premieres of contemporary cinema, to live fashion shows, and tastes of Newport Beach’s finest culinary creations, we offer filmmakers the ultimate Festival experience. The Festival will feature nightly special events including: red carpet galas, filmmaker receptions, compelling filmmaker Q & A sessions, international spotlights, industry seminars and retrospectives. In addition, the Festival hosts numerous opportunities to connect with enthusiastic new audiences, fellow filmmakers, film industry professionals and the media in a beautiful seaside location in Orange County, California (only 55 miles south of Hollywood). Scheduled to take place from April 23-30, 2009, the Festival will screen over 350 films, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, animated and student films. Films will screen at the historic Regency Lido Theater, the Big Newport and Edwards Island Cinemas in Fashion Island. The annual FreedomFilmFest will be returning to screens around Malaysia when the festival kicks off in September.
Fire of the Island
theweathergroup_U presents a final screening/event on the last day of the Biennale. "Fire of the Island" follows Isabell Coe, Robert Corowa and co. as they establish the Sacred Fire and move the Aboriginal Tent Embassy to Cockatoo Island after the Sydney Olympics, 2000. Robert Corowa and film maker G K Young will present the documentary. Percussionist extraordinaire, Louis Burdett will perform a live score. Bang!

Short Attention Span II The Squatters and Unwaged Workers Airwaves (SUWA) invite you to an evening of troublemaking short films. Thursday 17 June, 7 - 10 pm, Irene Warehouse, 5 Pitt St Brunswick Come and see inspiring short films about troublemaking from all around the world with lush food, drinks and popcorn for sale. This is a 3CR fundraiser. The SUWA show is on every Friday, 5.30-6.30pm and covers a range of areas from anarchist-feminist perspectives on the world, progress, pirates, activist rights and resisting the loss of civil liberties, the far right, state repression, squatting and other forms of resistance to capitalist work-discipline from Australia and around the world plus, love song dedications.
