Human Rights Watch
The Human Rights Watch reported that the revelation
of the torture video, allegedly shot by the soldiers themselves "exposes the pattern of abusive behavior among
Indonesian soldiers and police in dealing with the natives in the remote
province Papua".
HRW said an electronic analysis shows that the 3gp video was taken at 1:30pm on May 30,
2010. It was originally uploaded anonymously on YouTube on Oct. 16, 2010.
Local NGOs indicated that the site on the video was near a
bridge on Gurage River in Tingginambut, Puncak Jaya regency. The two men are
villagers: Tunaliwor Kiwo and Telangga Gire.
HRW reported that Kiwo escaped
from the soldiers on June 2, and the soldiers released Gire after his mother
and his wife had pleaded for his life.
Kiwo's testimony (in Lani language) can be viewed here with English and Indonesian subtitles.
