Despite having the fourth biggest population on the planet, Indonesia is rarely represented in regional and global digital rights conversations and networks. With more than half of Indonesia’s population online, digital rights are becoming increasingly important. Old and new actors have grown more focused on digital rights in recent times; however, national-level coordination remains difficult to sustain, as most efforts and resources are centralised in Jakarta.
To address these and other challenges and opportunities, EngageMedia is:
- Conducting research on the state of digital rights in Indonesia to identify key actors and advocacy successes and limitations to date
- Strengthening and expanding digital rights networks by enhancing knowledge sharing and building more interfaces with digital rights actors at the regional and global level
- Expanding the global profile of Indonesian digital rights issues
- Supporting and leading direct advocacy campaigns
